Who doesn’t love Morgan Freeman? Even casual movie fans will instantly recognize the legendary actor’s low voice and calm demeanor from a crowd of peers. Freeman has made his career in a variety of supporting roles that make him one of the premier second bananas in Hollywood history.

My first introduction to Freeman was likely his performance as God himself in Bruce Almighty. Needless to say, playing God can be a lot to live up to, but Freeman was perfectly cast in the role. That movie might not be my fondest recollection, but I soon discovered that Freeman had starred in plenty of great movies over the course of his career, including a number that received Oscar love. Freeman is always and incontrovertibly himself, and recognizing him is, at least for me, part of the joy of watching him.

The Clint Eastwood picture puts the gunslinger in a supporting role but lets him manage the film behind the camera. Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman shine as the best performers in the story about a downtrodden boxing studio that trains Swank’s underdog fighter all the way to the top before physical disablement ends it all. Freeman plays one of the trainers at the gym and is a confidant for both Swank and Eastwood’s characters. The movie won Best Picture at the 77th Academy Awards and allowed Freeman to reiterate how perfect he is in supporting roles when he took home Best Supporting Actor.

‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller says he was paid $225,000 for two years work on the film
The movie made more than $750 million at the worldwide box office.

The first Deadpool movie was a massive success, but apparently, that success did not trickle down to at least one half of the directing team responsible for the film. In an interview with Collider, Miller explained that he wasn't paid very well for the film, which wound up grossing $782 million worldwide.
“You guys might not know, but it’s not really a profitable thing to be a first-time director in Hollywood, and I’ll tell you exactly,” Miller explained. “I got $225,000 to direct ‘Deadpool.’ I know it sounds like a lot of money, but for two years of work, that’s not a ton of money.”
Miller added that, while the sum was not extraordinary, especially by Hollywood standards, it helped him get the career he has now.

“Not that I’m not grateful,” he said. “I’m f--king grateful, that’s the way it is because you’re supposed to when you’re a first-time director. My agent said: ‘Dude, you make more on an episode of The Walking Dead!‘”

Denis Villeneuve may have made his fair share of sci-fi movies, but that doesn't mean he's comfortable with the state of modern technology. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Villeneuve explained that he doesn't allow cell phones on his sets at all.

“Cinema is an act of presence,” Villeneuve said. “When a painter paints, he has to be absolutely focused on the color he’s putting on the canvas. It’s the same with the dancer when he does a gesture. With a filmmaker, you have to do that with a crew, and everybody has to focus and be entirely in the present, listening to each other, being in relationship with each other. So cellphones are banned on my set too, since Day 1. It’s forbidden. When you say cut, you don’t want someone going to his phone to look at his Facebook account.”
