As a franchise, Yellowstone goes far beyond a single show. That’s partially because series co-creator Taylor Sheridan is a very prolific writer and also because Paramount sold off the streaming rights for Yellowstone to Peacock. The studio only came to regret that decision when it needed a hit for Paramount+. So far, Sheridan has delivered two Paramount+ exclusive Yellowstone prequels: 1883 and 1923. The former was always going to be a one-season series, but 1923 has a second season on the way.

Harrison Ford is your grandfather’s favorite action hero and an Academy Award nominee for Witness, way back in the 1980s. He’s now entertaining new generations of fans with 1923. With his adventure and Western roots, he was the perfect fit for this Yellowstone spinoff, and it’s almost time to see him in the second season of the show. Here is everything we know so far about 1923 season 2, including a firm release date and a trailer.

Who is starring in 1923 season 2?

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford in 1923.
Paramount+

Between the two of them, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren have spent decades as movie stars. That’s why it was such a coup that they signed on for anything on TV, much less a two-season series. They will both be back as Jacob and Cara Dutton.

Additionally, the following performers are either confirmed or expected to return for the second season.

  • Sebastian Roché as Father Renaud
  • Darren Mann as Jack Dutton
  • Michelle Randolph as Elizabeth Strafford
  • Aminah Nieves as Teonna Rainwater
  • Brandon Sklenar as Spencer Dutton
  • Robert Patrick as Sheriff William McDowell
  • Jerome Flynn as Banner Creighton
  • Timothy Dalton as Donald Whitfield

Who’s joining the cast in 1923 season 2?

Jennifer Carpenter in Dexter
Showtime

There are two main additions to the 1923 cast. Former Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter has signed on to portray Mamie Fossett in a recurring role through season 2. Mamie is “a highly capable U.S. Deputy Marshall who serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time.”

In addition to playing Debra Morgan for eight seasons of Dexter and in the revival series Dexter: New Blood, Carpenter has appeared in Limitless, The Enemy Within, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Another addition to the cast is Andy Dispensa playing the role of Luca. He will feature prominently in Spencer’s storylines this season. Dispensa has played roles in The Chosen and The Funny Thing.

Considering that we know the Duttons own Yellowstone Ranch through the events of the original series, it seems likely that the family will retain ownership despite the dire straights that Jacob and Cara are facing at the end of 1923 season 1. Donald Whitfield has the Duttons in a vulnerable spot because he paid the sizable taxes that they owed the government. If the Duttons can’t repay the debt by the end of 1923, then Whitfield will own all of their land. Since we know that didn’t come to pass, the real mystery is how the Duttons were able to pull that off.

Is 1923 going to go beyond season 2?

No. Sheridan has lined up another prequel series, 1944, which may bring back some characters from 1923. However, Sheridan has already told Deadline in 2022 that he plans to wrap up 1923 within the eight episodes of season 2.

“This one is different than 1883, where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head,” said Sheridan. “This one, I had no idea what I was going to do. I just went on a journey myself, and I’m the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got. ‘Hey, I need to make more episodes to finish this story. I need to do this in two blocks. An eight-episode block and a second eight-episode block to wrap this up. I can’t wrap it up in two episodes and do the story justice. For them, it is great because they get more content. For me, I get more runway.”

Is there a trailer for 1923 season 2?

Paramount+ recently released a 1-minute trailer for the second season of 1923. Cara and Jacob Dutton look to be preparing for a final battle to defend their family name and ranch in what will be the show’s final season. The combination of old-school Hollywood legends and classical Western cinema filmmaking has allowed 1923 to flourish, and it looks like Taylor Sheridan will honor that style and substance again when seeing this trailer.

When will 1923 season 2 premiere?

Harrison Ford in 1923.
Paramount+

1923 season 2 will premiere on February 23, 2025 on Paramount+. This gives fans of the Yellowstone universe something to dive into again now that the original series is potentially off the airwaves. The series finale aired on December 15, 2024, and unless Paramount Network renews for a sixth season, the parent show won’t return.

Will ‘Bad Monkey’ get a season 2 at Apple TV+?
The show is based on a book of the same name that has a sequel
Vince Vaughn in Bad Monkey

Apple TV+ is slowly but surely building a library of interesting TV projects. Bad Monkey, which aired earlier this year on the streamer, was just one example, adapting a novel of the same name and bringing in Vince Vaughn to star.

Now, Variety is reporting that the show will be back for a second season. There is a sequel to the original novel, which was written by Carl Hiaasen, titled Razor Girl, but Variety's reporting suggests that the second season will not be based on that novel. In spite of that creative departure, creator Bill Lawrence said he has nothing but admiration for Hiaasen.

Yellowjackets season 2; The group confronts their truth

Between the large variety of streaming options available to TV fans and the long wait times between new seasons, you'd be forgiven for forgetting some of the best programming on air today. Hopefully, when looking for shows that have slipped between the cracks, you take a look at Showtime's Yellowjackets. This gaudy, eye-popping drama is a mix of many different genres and capitalizes on shock value and creative storytelling techniques to craft a unique experience unlike anything else running at the moment.

The show is named after the girls' high school soccer team that the plot revolves around. The young women of the Yellowjackets are talented, ambitious, but flawed teenagers with hopes and dreams for the future. When their plane crashes in the woods during a cross-country flight to a soccer game, the obscene circumstances force many of the girls to do things they never would have imagined. In an ingenious bit of storytelling and character development, the show also bounces 25 years into the present timeline (the crash happened in 1996) to show the survivors of the crash in their early 40s in 2021. If you read Lord of the Flies at some point in school as a kid or got hooked on Lost during its 2000s heyday, you'll immediately see some parallels and shared DNA between Yellowjackets and those stories.
